Prior to beginning her journey in Counseling, Crystal taught Pre-K for one year and High School for 5 years.
Crystal completed counseling internship hours working in outpatient care at Lone Star Behavioral Health Hospital near Houston. She used sand tray therapy, Equine Assisted Psychotherapy, group therapy, and individual therapy for adults. In addition, she worked with children and interned as a play therapist in The Woodlands, TX.
After completing graduate internships, Crystal joined the STCH Ministries team and worked in the Stockdale and Victoria Family Counseling offices. Her greatest joy was being able to incorporate her faith into her work while gaining incredible experience under top-notch leadership. She gained extensive experience working with children, adolescents, and teens, as well as individuals of all ages dealing with grief and trauma.
After 3 years of working in ministry, Crystal resigned from South Texas Children’s Home Ministries in order to join her husband in owning and operating their Veterinary practice in Taft, TX. At this time, Crystal also opened Serenity Counseling Services in Beeville, serving her community on a part-time basis. After opening the doors of SCS in 2017, she continued to partner with local ministries, providing an array of counseling services. Crystal particularly enjoyed working at a nearby refuge for teenage girls, where she provided Equine Assisted Psychotherapy to teenage girls who had been sex trafficked.
Crystal’s goal as a professional counselor is to build warm, open, and genuine relationships with clients so that they may feel Christ’s love through their counseling relationship. Her treatment approach is unique for each client; however, she tends to use Cognitive Behavioral and Solution Focused techniques to empower and teach clients to help themselves and reach their goals. She provides trauma informed care and has been trained in TBRI (Trust-Based Relational Intervention), and Natural Lifemanship.
Crystal was born and raised in Buda, TX. She is married to her wonderful husband and college sweetheart, Steven. They have two children, one in elementary school and the other in junior high. The Cox Family has a love for the Lord and a strong desire to serve and love His people. Their guiding philosophy is “Count your Blessings, and in ALL things find Joy”. One of Crystal’s favorite verses is James 1:2-4 “Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.”
